COLT STARTING
Shorrock Performance Horses start horses in their two year old year. We train these young horses at their pace not yours. It is important to understand that all horses come along at different speeds. So 90 days on one horse can be totally different than 90 days on another horse.
With training your horse will:
- - Become soft and supple.
- - Gain responsiveness .
- - Stand for tacking, mounting, etc.
- - Load in a trailer.
- - Develop a desire to please.
GROUND WORK:
Our groundwork program consists of: leading, lungeing, handling their ears and mouth (preparing for bridling), handling the horses feet, grooming, teaching them to stand tied, saddling/tacking, and trailer loading.
TRAINING:
We offer colt starting, teaching the basics, refresher training and pleasure riding training. Some of the exercises I teach during training include: leg yields, neck-reining, counter-bending, counter-cantering, collection and extending of the gaits, softening at the poll, and moving with a relaxed headset. With my emphasis on bending, flexing and softening, your horse will become much more responsive in everything you ask of him.
